Scope of Work

Design a contemporary, fresh and stylish master bedroom in a luxury apartment for a middle-aged
professional/creative couple who are world travellers. Your design must appeal to both him and her, will not date
quickly and will showcase your decorating skills.The design will be suitable for a magazine or digital shoot.

Design Components

The bedroom design must consist of an inviting warm bed setting and complimentary window coverings with the
following soft furnishing products, manufactured by BQ Design on display:
* curtains
* roman or bonded roller blind
* bedhead or wall panels
* bedspread or quilt cover
* valance.
At least one of the above bedding products must be quilted. Additional soft furnishing products manufactured by
BQ Design may be included in the bedroom including: pelmet, throw rug, pillow cases and cushions.
A range of beautiful soft textured fabrics will be used in the bedroom with all fabrics sourced from Zepel Fabrics.

Design Statement

In developing the design concepts from the concept for the Smiths the starting point was their global travels. For the bedroom I have chosen to focus on their holidays as opposed to overseas cities they have lived.

I had also recently visited Cuba so have a firsthand experience of its contrast. It is a mix of Spanish Colonial & Modernist building styles and strong Caribbean colours, distressed by age. These elements would be broadly being classified as the design style of rough luxe.

I also reviewed colour trends from Pantone & Dulux. One trend from each influenced the colour palate with the Global/Cuban/Rough Luxe concept. From Pantone it was the ‘Culture Eclectic’ trend, particularly the Maxi-Tribe sub trend and colour palate. From Dulux, it was the Modhaus trend.

For the bedroom, I have overlayed the need to soften these strong colours to create a restful feeling for this space. The afternoon western sun will also bring a harshness of light that will need to be softened.

Natural elements have brought in with the use of floral, but with a watercolour style to soften their impact. The feeling of luxury has been added with a combination of textures in the fabrics selected – suede, wool, linen.
